O2 says it’s “nearly ready” to release the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, having delayed the phone’s release due to buggy software. Other networks also held the so-called PlayStation Phone back, but this was pinned on shipping problems rather than software faults.
In an official blog post, O2 said it had been testing updated software on the Xperia Play and that it was now satisfied that the phone was almost ready for release. “I’m happy to report [the software] has fixed a lot of the bugs that would have stopped our customers having a great experience when they use the Play,” said the head of O2’s testing team Stuart Hibberd.
However, the mobile network has yet to give the final nod to the phone. Prices and a specific release date are expected to be announced, “…very soon,” with another update from Hibberd expected, “…shortly.”
